HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY
Transfer of Power occurred on this 15th August 1947 only after Partition of Bengal and Punjab.
Millions had bathed with blood and screamed on that day for losing their motherland.
15th August 2012 is again a day of celebration with pomp. But can the sufferer of partition celebrate the day? It is an experience of bereavement for them to remember the day.
“This must not; the partition must go. Let us hope that may come about naturally, by an increasing recognition of the necessity not only of peace and concord but the common action, by the practice of common action and the creation of means for that purpose. In this way unity may finally come about under whatever form ‒ the exact form may have a pragmatic but not a fundamental importance. But by whatever means in whatever way, the division must go; unity must and will be achieved, for it is necessary for the greatness of Indian’s future.”
- Sri Aurobindo.

“Being a Bengali from East Pakistan I have seen the untold miseries inflicted on my people in the name of independence – which is a fake and shame. I have reacted violently to this and even in my last film, which is yet to be released (Jukti Takko O Gappo) I have tried to portray different aspects of this. I am also aware of a complete break-down of moral values around me especially among the younger generation of today.”
- Ritwik Ghatak.

RUN RUN RUN
Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol commented 200years ago, "The open field and a good horse- that's the kind of like you'll live!.................". Now contemporary society allures you to run for more money, power. Run to be richer until you are out of yours breath.

THE BRIDGE
‘The Boy in the Stripped Pyjamas’, a film by Mark Herman, screened at
Kolkata Film Festival dumbfounded me. It not only enlightened me to
find a new way of looking things that happened in past, but I also
discovered a BRIDGE between past and present. A painting of any medium
depicts the ‘Time’ Butchery of children for political or any other
reason is a shame for mankind. But still such dreadful killings are
going on in this capitalist society.

Exhibition of My Paintings at Kala Academy,Panji,Goa-(ii)
'Basudev is a voracious reader of quality literature and Franz Kafka has occupied major space in his intellectual ideas."A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us," said Franz Kafka, the enigmatic German writer of Jewish lineage.'
'For Basudev, it emerged as the absolute truth. The apparent hopelessness and absurdity that seem to permeate Kafka's works apparently shifts over in Basudev's works and hope and desire filter through. Themes of alienation and persecution are repeatedly accentuated with a glimmer of optimism and underlying joy. The "Bridge" repeats through his paintings as a symbol of joyful coexistence and aspired camaraderie across the various segments, class, faith, nations, etc.'

THE BRIDGE
“I was stiff and cold, I was a bridge, I lay over a ravine. My toes on one side, my fingers clutching the other, I had clamped myself fast into the crumbling clay. The tails of my coat fluttered at my sides. Far below brawled the icy trout stream. No tourist strayed to this impassable height, the bridge was not yet traced on any map. So I lay and waited; I could only wait. Without falling, no bridge, once spanned, can cease to be a bridge.
It was toward evening one day-was it the first, was it the thousandth? I cannot tell-my thoughts were always in confusion and perpetually moving in a circle. It was toward evening in summer, the roar of the stream had grown deeper, when I heard the sound of a human step! To me, to hold up the passenger entrusted to you. If his steps are uncertain, steady them unobtrusively, but if he stumbles show what you are made of and like a maintain god hurl him across to land.
He came, he tapped me with the iron paint of his stick, then he lifted my coattails with it and put them in order upon me. He plunged the point of his stick into my bushy hair and let it lie there for a long time, forgetting me no doubt while he wildly gazed around him. But then-I was just following him in thought over mountain and valley- he jumped with both feet on the middle of my body. I shuddered with wild pain, not knowing what was happening. Who was it? A child? A dream? A wayfarer? A suicide? A tempter? A destroyer? And I turned around so as to see him. A bridge to turn around! I had not yet turned quite around when I already began to fall, I fell and in a moment I was torn and transpierced by the sharp rocks which had always gazed up at me so peacefully from the rushing water.”
by Franz Kafka
I perceive, art is an exploration of life, real or imagined with a deep and humanitarian attitude. My painting is an attempt to enter the world of Franz Kafka with such attitude.
A bridge, small or large, the link between lands, regions countries. Not only does it connect, it also builds up bond, amity, friendship and civilization.

HAPPY NEW YEAR-2012
2012, the new year, has already started rolling. I'm not sure if I'm ready for it yet. For me, 2011 still hangs on, and is very much alive. But that is not the point. The point is that time flows without a care or consideration for me, you, or anybody else for the matter. It would surely take some time before the new year sinks in my system.
On a personal note, in December 2011, I got a cash award for painting from 84 ALL INDIA FINE ARTS & CRAFTS SOCIETY(pictures ^ ). And I'm shifting my base to Mumbai from January, 2012.
