VIOLENCE CIRCA 2010 (5): BLOODIED BENARAS

So this is my year-end posting: the circa 2010 closes today. I wish I could wind up this series with this one, but no way. I'm deep into this work, and would like to carry it forward into 2011. Meanwhile, my best wishes to all of you who have visited this blog and inspired me with their comments and feedback . As an artist, I'm always for a cool, serene world without any sign of torture and repression anywhere, but given our times, it's an implausible proposition. Nevertheless, I hope and pray for a less-violent, less-bloodied 2011 for all.

So what good is civilization if it takes countless innocent victims for its "development"?

These days violence erupts at the drop of a hat. There’s a blast somewhere, and the place gets spattered with blood in an instant.  Bodies- mostly of innocent victims - scatter all over the site. And then it’s all over in minutes. Later, out of the debris, an isolated hand, blown off from a body, emerges as if as an evidence of

the grisly event. This is violence circa 2010, diminishing our existence, and mocking our humanity and civilization.
